A 1987 Ferrari Testarossa once owned by The Rocket Man himself is on the docket of Australian online auction house Shannons’ 40th Anniversary event starting Tuesday, November 23, and ending November 30.
According to Shannons, this Ferrari was given to Elton John as a 40th birthday present by his record company, MCS. It’s noted in the car’s listing that John wasn’t the first owner of the coupe, although the original owner only had the car for 2-3 months.
“The Ferrari was auctioned in 2001 by auctioneers Christie’s, when it sold vehicles from the Elton John Collection, when it was showing 7,434 miles on the clock (according to the auction catalogue),” Shannons states in the listing.
The car was purchased by a Ferrari dealer from the UK and eventually made its way to its current owner in Sydney, Australia. Current mileage showing on the car is 10,733.
“The Rossa Corsa paintwork presents in outstanding condition with not even minor blemishes apparent,” Shannons adds. “Standing this example apart, its 16” wheel centres have been painted in Charcoal rather than the original silver.”
Also in well-kept condition is the tan leather interior with brown carpets, black dash and a traditional open-gate gearshift.
Under the hood is a 4943cc flat-12 engine factory rated at 390 horsepower, making this coupe capable of reaching 180 miles per hour and taking just 5.2 seconds to reach 62 miles per hour.
“Ferrari’s Testarossa has really come of age over the past decade and is highly sought-after by marque aficionados and super car collectors alike,” Shannons continues. “And this one has that special additional aura of association with one of music’s all-time legends.”
The winning bidder will receive a letter from Elton John confirming his ownership along with the original owner’s compendium with original books, receipts and photos.
