AutoHunter Spotlight: 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 single-cab pickup

Brazilian-market pickup with hydraulic-powered bed and rebuilt 1,600cc flat-4

-

Up for auction on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 pickup initially produced for the Brazilian market but imported to the United States.

The green-and-beige body features a hydraulically activated tipping cargo bed which you can see in action in the video below:

Bright accents found throughout the body include the VW logo at the front end, headlight rings, moldings, handles, and window surrounds. The seller notes they are in need of some refinishing to be show-level.

Inside the single cab are  black-vinyl seats with a contrasting beige dash and a two-spoke steering wheel. You’ll also find fold-out windshield panels and side-mounted wing windows for ventilation.

Power comes from a rebuilt 1,600cc flat-four with dual carburetors, connected to a 4-speed manual transmission with a floor-mounted shift lever.

See the video below for a walk around tour of the VW pickup:

The six-digit odometer reads 65,000 kilometers (40,390 miles), but it’s believed the cluster has rolled over twice, so the estimated mileage is 265,000 kilometers (164,663 miles).

This VW’s auction ends July 6 at 11:20 a.m. PDT.
