Toyota lifts Tacoma to a new level

TRD lift kit enhances ground clearance and truck’s appearance

-

A little extra ground clearance is a good thing when driving off road, so Toyota Racing Development has created a lift kit for the Tacoma mid-size pickup truck that raises the front end 2 inches and the rear by 1 inch.

The dealer-installed kit is designed for 2020 or later V6 4×4 models and, Toyota says, is the only lift kit validated by TRD engineers to be compatible with Toyota Safety Sense technology.

“Tacoma owners are already very accustomed to getting off the beaten path and exploring the great outdoors, and the Tacoma TRD Lift Kit is designed to complement and enhance that lifestyle thanks to the added ground clearance and improved approach, departure and breakover angles it provides,” Toyota said in its announcement.

The kit uses new monotube Bilstein shocks with digressive valving designed to provide improved on- and off-road capabilities, the automaker added. The shocks are fitted with TRD “red dust” boots and “Tuned by TRD” graphics.

Toyota said the kit provides 1.7 inches more ground clearance, increases approach angle to 32 degrees, breakover to 23 and departure to 24.

“The icing on this ruggedly tasty cake,” Toyota adds, is a TRD Pro-style grille with “heritage-inspired” TOYOTA lettering. The grille is fitted with a new Toyota Safety Sense sensor and camera support bracket.

The TRD Lift Kit is priced at $1,350, which does not include the 4-5 hours of labor needed for installation.

  1. Nothing like a Factory installed option. Of course we hope that this lift will be beneficial and they extra ground clearance and safety features will be intact and fully operational. It will be interesting to see how Tacoma owners respond to this TRD “umph” compared to the aftermarket suppliers.
