‘The Inner Drive’ celebrates Issigonis’ little idea that turned out to be a big deal

As part of its marketing campaign for the new Mini, Mini USA has released a short video about the creation of the first Mini by Alex Issigonis, as well as a second video about how the video itself was created.

“Over sixty years ago, Englishman Alec Issigonis presented a new idea to the world – the Mini, a small, space-efficient, fuel-efficient car that forever changed the automotive world,” Mini USA said as the films were released.

“What started as an innovative idea on paper ultimately made the world rethink what it means to drive, while celebrating the power of small things.”

The Inner Drive video was produced by advertising agency 360i and Italian artist Virgilio Villoresi and illustrator Virginia Mori.

  1. The original Mini was a miracle of packaging that made no allowance for safety equipment such as air bags and crumple zones.
Primary safety is not having the wreck in the first place but in a secondary safety situation, given the choice between an Issigonis Mini and one made by BMW, I know which one l’d rather be in.
