Those attending Mecum Auctions’ annual Dallas collector car sale this week not only will see the 1,000 vehicles on the auction docket but also the Bullitt Mustang “hero car” driven in the movie Bullitt by actor Steve McQueen.
The iconic Mustang has been consigned for sale at Mecum’s annual auction scheduled for January 2020 in Kissimmee, Florida.
The Dallas sale is scheduled for September 4-7 at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in downtown Callas and will include cars from a dozen private collections, Mecum said.
Among the main attractions are 10 Mopar cars from the Canadian-based Peter Swainson Collection. Mecum said that Swainson’s father was a car dealer and that Swainson eventually took over the dealership. The collection includes a 1969 Dodge Daytona with the lowest serial number assigned to Daytona production and a 1971 Plymouth Hemi GTX, a 426 Hemi-powered car and one of only 19 GTXs from that year with an automatic transmission.
Nearly 100 other cars are consigned from 11 other collections, including 20 from the Tommy Cronk Collection of Odessa, Texas, among them a 1968 Dodge Hemi Dart LO23 Super Stock.
The Buick GS Quartet includes four cars. The High Sieck Collection features seven restored Chevrolets. The Henry Lewis Collection offers 28 vehicles, 17 of them Chevrolet Corvettes.
Other collections include the Double Trouble, the 17-vehicle Red Dirt Collection and The Get Out and Ride Collection of vintage Honda motorcycles and a 1979 Yamaha YZ250.
