A remake is a tricky business, especially when it’s a remake of a great film such as The Italian Job. However, Hollywood got this 2003 reboot right.
Though it’s a remake, the 2003 version plays as a sort of sequel to the original: Like the original, the crew steals a safe from an Italian city. Unlike the original, one of the thieves, Steve, turns on the rest and takes the money for himself and leaves them for dead.
The film’s hero, Charlie Croker, locates Steve a year later and assembles his old crew to steal their money back from Steve.
To do so, they hatch a plan to take over Los Angeles traffic (sound familiar?) to secure their escape route. Naturally, there are some plot twists and turns, but our band of heroes find a way to outthink Steve and make off with the loot.
