Monterey Car Week won’t be the only star-studded event in California this week: A 1977 Sea-Mist Green Cadillac Seville that was the final car purchased by Elvis Presley before his death leads the docket of a Hollywood auction, along with two other cars with ties to the King.
According to the GWS Auctions listing, the 1977 Cadillac was purchased by Presley on October 6, 1976 at Hillcrest Motors. He bought it from longtime Cadillac dealer Jon Rappa and immediately gave it to 19-year-old Nancy Oxman, whom he met that day while she was window shopping for a car.
“This vehicle gives us an inside glimpse at the life and generosity of Elvis Presley, and truly belongs in a museum or an astute collector,” the listing read.
The listing claimed Patricia Jobe Pierce’s book, The Ultimate Elvis, is incorrect in stating Presley’s final car purchase was a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado in September 1976. GWS Auctions said the Seville comes with a notarized letter of authenticity from Oxman, a credit card receipt and the registration of a second Cadillac that Presley bought and registered the same day stamped October 6. Chain of ownership and other documentation will be included in the sale.
Two other Presley-gifted cars will be on offer: Lot 11 is a 1976 Lincoln Continental Mark IV Cartier Edition that was given to a Colorado doctor who helped cure a snowmobiling rash on Presley’s face and Lot 11A is a 1974 Cadillac Fleetwood d’Elegance Brougham Edition purchased for Presley’s personal psychic, Lou Wright.
A handful of other Hollywood cars will be open for bids. Two cars from The Fast & the Furious franchise -– a 1970 Dodge Charger and a 1987 Buick Grand National –- are part of the sale. Actor Vin Diesel drove both cars.
A cast-signed 1963 Ragtop Volkswagen Beetle used in the film Herbie: Fully Loaded will be available, as will a 2008 Ford Mustang KITT used in the 2008 NBC reboot of Knight Rider.
Fan re-creations of the Mystery Mobile from Scooby Doo, a Ford Explorer and Jeep Wrangler from Jurassic Park, and two Cars-themed vehicles will be up for bidding as well.
The GWS Auction will be held Saturday, August 25 in Agoura Hills. It starts at 10 a.m.
