Barrett-Jackson countdown: Track-ready BMW M3 Lightweight

-

Lot No. 676 is a 1995 BMW M3 Lightweight that is one of just 26 produced.

Referred to internally as the E36 M3 CSL, it is a special track-oriented version of the U.S.-spec E36 M3 coupe. It weighs 2,950 pounds, a full 225 pounds less than the traditional coupe.

The highly optioned car is powered by a 2.5-liter V6 paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Like all Lightweights, this one was painted Alpine White III and included a slew of special performance-focused features. The car has a shortened 3.23:1 final drive, aluminum doors, reduced sound insulation, stiffer European-spec springs and shocks, an M-shock tower brace, forged M double-spoke alloy wheels, front lip and rear spoilers and – of course – the checkered flag decals in BMW Motorsports colors.

Inside, the car has special sill and trim-panel plating, BMW sports seats in Anthracite Hurricane-colored cloth with red highlights, a carbon fiber-look dash and center console, and Anthracite carpet from the E-36.

To save weight, the air conditioner, tool kit, console valet and radio were deleted. However, the car is prewired for audio, and two door speakers will be included in the final sale.

Barrett-Jackson’s annual Northeast auction is scheduled for June 21-23 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

  1. Really? "The highly optioned car is powered by a 2.5-liter V6 paired with a 6-speed manual transmission."

If you’re going to advertise this special car, get it right: it has an inline 3 liter, 6 cylinder and a 5 speed. And, there were approximately 125 made.
