RM Sotheby’s sets Porsche-only auction at Atlanta

-

On the eve of its annual Amelia Island auction, RM Sotheby’s announced an addition to its 2018 sales calendar, a single-marque auction scheduled for October at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta. The auction will be part of Porsche’s 70th anniversary celebration.

RM Sotheby’s said around 70 cars will be offered on the auction docket.

“RM Sotheby’s entire global team is thrilled to be working with Porsche to present the Porsche 70th Anniversary Sale,” Kenneth Ahn, president of RM Sotheby’s, was quoted in a news release.

“We’ve witnessed record-setting results and incredible atmosphere at several manufacturer-supported single-marque sales over the last decade, and we look forward to offering our clients an unparalleled auction experience in Atlanta this fall.

“The Porsche Experience Center demonstrates the incredible lifestyle that Porsche ownership affords and celebrates the ultimate enjoyment of any of their models — driving them. Spectacularly designed with attention-to-detail paid in every regard, from the upholstered seats in Restaurant 356 to the precision of the track, Porsche DNA is visible in every square inch of the place.

“We look forward to collaborating with Porsche to deliver an unforgettable experience for Porsche collectors and enthusiasts in celebrating the brand’s 70th Anniversary.”

Porsche expressed the same expectations.

“Even before the full concept of our first Porsche Experience Center in North America saw the light of day, we realized the tremendous opportunities a facility like this would attract,” said Andre Oosthuizen, vice-president of marketing for Porsche Cars North America.

“In the three short years since our grand opening, we’ve hosted multiple major movie productions, have seen 115,000 enthusiasts come through our doors, opened the Porsche Classic Center, and created rotating displays in our Heritage Gallery. Our Porsche Experience Centers are a natural location for a classic automotive auction of this magnitude.”

Porsche also has an experience center in Southern California, and has joined with the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles to present a major exhibition of historic Porsche cars as part of the anniversary celebration.

The auction in Atlanta, home of Porsche’s U.S. headquarters, is scheduled for the weekend of October 27.

Facilities at the Atlanta experience center include a 1.6-mile test track, classic car gallery and restoration center, driving simulator lab, Porsche driver’s-selection store, Carrera Cafe and Restaurant 356, and Solis, a luxury hotel. The facilities are adjacent to Atlanta’s Hatsfield-Jackson International Airport.
