Blue Benz with red leather interior needs some TLC

-

You’ve heard the old saying that they’re only original once. Well, here as the Pick of the Day is a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 220S four-door sedan that the private seller in Spring Lake, Michigan, promises is in “excellent original condition.”

“Beautiful red leather interior, no rips or tears,” the seller says in the car’s advertisement on ClassicCars.com. “Very little rust, wood dash inserts, original paint not faded, garage kept and not driven in snow so no salt exposure.”

The odometer shows only 51,000 miles, and while the car is in “good mechanical condition,” it has not run in around three years and may need some tender loving care to get back on the road.

On the road, the dark blue paint hue and red leather interior would look fabulous.

The car has its original engine, which would be a 2,195cc inline six-cylinder rated in 1959 at 100 horsepower. The engine is linked to a manual transmission.

With an asking price of $22,000, the car would seem a reasonable buy if you’re adept enough with Mercedes mechanical bits to do whatever is needed to get the engine running again.
