Vehicles that ‘earned their keep’ featured in new exhibit

A new exhibit, “Getting the Job Done: Vehicles that Earned Their Keep!” opens November 18 and runs through April 23, 2018 at the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The exhibit will include business coupes designed for traveling salesmen, such “professional vehicles” as limousines, hearses and ambulances, as well as a 1919 Walker “potato” truck, vintage ice cream truck and 1922 Brockway LaFrance and 1938 Mack fire trucks.

Special events this weekend

The Owls Head Transportation Museum in Maine hosts its Great Fall Auction on Saturday featuring antiques, housewares, furniture, tools and other collectible objects.

The AACA Museum is the location Saturday for the Central Pennsylvania Whiskey & Fine Spirits Festival. And on November 3, it’s Autos & Ales from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

America on Wheels museum in Allentown, Pennsylvania, offers a Trunk or Treat event Saturday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Demo Day is Saturday at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, where Corvettes will be exercised in the museum parking lot between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Cars to be featured include the museum’s 1963 Grand Sport racer and split-window coupe, 1966 427 roadster and 1967 Stingray 427.

Muscle Car City in Punta Gorda, Florida, stages its monthly auto flea market and car corral Sunday from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.

It’s Trunk or Treat on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, Indiana.

The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, hosts a MEchanics Workshop on Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon, instructing car owners on such basics as changing a flat tire or headlamp, checking fluid levels, etc. To register, visit the special MEchanics website.

The Kansas City Automotive Museum offers its free holiday movie night Saturday at 2 p.m., showing the Scooby movie. Just bring along your chairs and blankets.

The British Motor Museum hosts its ninth annual Large Model Aircraft Show on Sunday with more than 100 radio-controlled model aircraft on display inside the museum.

Mark your calendar

The National Corvette Museum offers a trip to the 24 Hours of Le Mans race from June 8-19, 2018, to cheer for the Corvette Racing team. The trip includes three days in Paris, visits to the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge, Palace of Versailles and a cruise on the Seine, as well as day trips to Normandy and Omaha beaches. The British Motor Museum at Beaulieu will expand its “Simply” show schedule in 2018, adding a Simply Audi event on April 29. As part of the event, the museum will stage its first Simply Rummage swap meet with a focus on 4×4 vehicle parts.

The museum’s Simply schedule begins with Simply Aston Martin on April 8 and runs through Simply Smart on November 11.
