Rainy weather didn’t appear to dampen bidders Friday at the Arizona collector car auctions, where the total so far — $187.1 million in sales — represents a 17 percent boost compared with results  through Friday a year ago.

In its daily report, Hagerty, the vehicle insurance and valuation-tracking company that monitors every sale at every auction during Arizona Car Week, noted that reasons for the boost in sales totals include increased volume, an additional auction, and that two catalog sales hammered top lots “sold!” Friday when a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster brought $6.6 million at RM Sotheby’s and a 1925 Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix went for $3.3 million at Gooding & Company.

“Million-dollar cars rebounded slightly yesterday with their sell-through rate coming in six points higher compared to this point last year,” the Hagerty report noted Saturday morning.

“Nearly half of the cars valued above $250K, however, earned bids less than what their condition would warrant. In short, the best of the best did well but the majority of the top end of the market isn’t universally sharing the same experience,” the company said in a cautionary note.

“Perhaps the biggest story emerging this week has been the pickup truck market, which has consistently seen impressive prices each day,” Hagerty added, noting that of the unmodified trucks and SUVs its staff examined, 60 percent sold above condition-appropriate prices according to Hagerty Price Guide. Particularly strong were 1973-87 Chevrolet pickups, 1967-72 Ford F-Series trucks, and a 1956 Dodge Power Wagon that sold for $61,600 at Barrett-Jackson.

“Performance among muscle cars has been steady overall, though variable by model,” the report noted, adding that 54 percent of Mopar muscle reviewed by Hagerty have sold above condition-appropriate prices this week in Arizona.

“Saturday is always the week’s strongest (day), and this year should be no exception,” the report concluded, noting that among the star cars crossing auction blocks today are a 1965 Ferrari 500 Superfast at Gooding, the 1955 Chrysler Ghia Streamline X concept car at Barrett-Jackson, and a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L88 coupe at Russo and Steele.

Listed below are raw results witnessed by Hagerty during the live auctions, and may not include post-sale deals that have yet to be reported. Sales figures do include buyer’s premiums.
