The Antique Truck Club of America held its national meet in Macungie Memorial Park in Macungie, Pennsylvania over Father’s Day weekend, when perfect weather helped draw a record turn out of over 700 trucks of all sizes and configurations.
What other car show do you see a show vehicle hauling another show vehicle? The combination of big rigs pulling lowboy trailers or box trailers with other trucks or vintage heavy equipment aboard was a common theme. How about your show vehicle pulling your motor home? Yep, lots of show trucks were pulling campers or modified box trailers allowing the owners to stay right on the show grounds.
For shear variety, this show is hard to beat. Every kind of truck from pre-war pickups to post-war SUVs, a lovely 1936 Ford School bus, a whole line-up of Divco and other manufactured-home delivery trucks, fire trucks from pickup size to the longest ladder truck with a rear driver, even a World-War I-period Packard military truck, they were all on the field.
Even the event loudspeakers where hoisted skyward on top of the extension ladder of a vintage fire truck.
Not surprising at a show located less than two miles from one of Mack truck’s main manufacturing plants, Mack bulldog insignia and trucks were widely displayed. Skip Mckean of New Hampshire brought seven Mack trucks, all finished in matching livery and displayed from the smallest and oldest pickup to the largest and newest tractor. A lovely 1916 Mack AC was done as a vintage police paddy wagon while another early Mack was constructed as a sightseeing bus with some of the most finely crafted woodwork .
Custom trucks were also welcome and a heavily modified Ford crew-cab pickup body on a Mack tractor chassis resulted in the largest and most outlandish pickup truck I have ever seen.
Did you know they race big-rig tractors? I knew they did it but have never seen one in person until this show. The heavily modified tractor was fitted with a full roll cage, carbon fiber aero fairings and a massive fuel cell.
The ATCA holds its national meet on Father’s Day weekend every year in this same park, and the event includes an excellent flea market.
