In the late 1980s, Bill and Ted, students at San Dimas High School, did some time traveling, collecting Abraham Lincoln, Beethoven, Joan of Arc, Genghis Khan, Freud, Socrates, Billy the Kid and Napoleon in what amounted to a living history report.
They traveled in a phone booth (remember those?), but their ride of choice could have been the time-capsule 1963 Rambler Classic Cross Country 660 station wagon that is our Pick of the Day, and already is located in San Dimas, California, site of Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
According to the advertisement on ClassicCars.com, this Rambler Cross Country has a partially restored exterior, an unrestored interior (that looks brand new in the photographs in the ad), and its original straight-six engine.
“Here’s a very cool 1963 Rambler Classic Cross Country 660 station wagon,” the seller reports. “It’s perfect for taking the family for a ride or just cruising around on your own. I can’t explain how much fun it is to drive this wagon. It’s like you’re in a different world.
“It runs great and starts up smooth every time. The engine does not have any leaks. Just had it tuned up. The fuel pump and fuel filter are only a few months old. The transmission does have a small fluid leak but it still runs and shifts fine. I’ve always kept the transmission fluid topped off.
“The interior is in pretty good condition. The interior doesn’t need much work. I had the seat belts installed a couple of years ago. The seats are the softest and most cushiony car seats I’ve ever sat on. No headrests so you can actually see everything when you look around. All of the glass is in great condition, no cracks. The doors open and close fine. The rear cargo door opens and closes fine as well.
“The rear window rolls down into the door. All of the locks work. The headliner is still intact and doesn’t sag. It has a newer stereo with CD and USB port. The sound quality is really good from the speakers in the back.
“The exterior is in good shape. A good twenty-footer car! Most of the paint is still in good condition with a few small chips. The roof has lost its shine though.
“The chrome is still good, even on the hub caps. As you can see from the pictures, the body is very straight on all sides. It does have a little rust behind the right rear wheel well. The rest of the car is solid though. The previous owner did a lot of work to the wagon and kept all of the service records.
“This is a great ride if you want to start enjoying a classic car right away while still being able to customize it the way you want.”
Or instead of customizing it, you could simply keep this wagon as original as possible and enjoy your own excellent adventures, all for an asking price of just $6,000 (or best offer).
