Bids are as exotic as the cars Thursday at Arizona auctions

Modern exotics and supercars were in the spotlight Thursday at the classic and collector car auctions in Arizona, and Hagerty notes that “most of them did well.”

Throughout the week, the classic car insurance and price-tracking company has personnel monitoring each of the auctions and provides a daily report to the media.

While the top price paid Thursday was $3 million for a 1929 Duesenberg Model J Disappearing-Top Torpedo convertible coupe sold at RM Sotheby’s sale, Hagerty was particularly impressed with the winning bids on a 2015 McLaren P1 ($2.09 million at Bonhams), a 2015 Porsche 918 Weissach Spider ($1.595 million at RM Sotheby’s) and a 2011 Ferrari 599 SA Aperta (more than $1.18 million at RM Sotheby’s).

Hagerty also noted that American muscle cars continued their strong showing with an “in-the-wrapper” 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am selling for $187,000 and a 213-mile 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z bringing $49,500, both at Barrett-Jackson.

Hagerty also said that it reports “raw results as witnessed during the live auctions and may not include every post-sale transaction.” The numbers do, however, include the various buyer’s fees added to the winning bids.
