The Copperstate 1000, the classic car road rally around Arizona that celebrates its 25th anniversary this month, is adding an off-road rally in October.

Called the Copperstate Overland, the new event will be a similar high-caliber affair as the 1000, except this one will take participants with vintage off-road vehicles into Arizona’s world-renowned back country.

Overland Logo lDetails are few at this point, although the dates are October 18-21. Only 20 vehicles will be accepted for the first year, with the criteria that they be off-road vehicles built before 1979. The cost for the event, which benefits the Phoenix Art Museum, has been set at $6,850.

The Copperstate Overland will feature luxury campsites as well as a resort stay. Participants should expect gourmet foods even along the dusty trail.

The website for Copperstate Overland should go up sometime this week at copperstateoverland.com.
