My Classic Car: Ray’s 1964 Mercury Meteor

I was lucky to get this true family car from a family friend. He bought the car because it was made in Canada, just as he was born there. It needed some work but he put the time and effort into this beauty.

This is a 1964 Mercury Meteor, yes, made in Canada, and one thing you won’t see on this car’s body is the “Mercury” name plate. The only name plates on this car says “Meteor.”

She is a 4-door with a 352-cid V8.

Plain Jane, perhaps, but ideal for a long family road trip

This was a Plain Jane car with a AM radio, no air, no power brakes, no power steering and no breezeway window. It does have room for 6 and lots of trunk space as well. The color is in the original Skyline blue. It drives real nice and get lots of looks and stories from families that owned one or one of the American versions.

Family classic cars like this 4-door don’t get the looks from a lot of classic car buffs but these cars were why the highways were built in the first place. Traveling the open road with the family for vacations and road trips to see our country. Plenty of leg and head room plus the trunk to hold all the luggage and more.

Next time you’re at a classic car show, ask us about our cars. We have stories, too.
