Well-known car collector, concours judge and writer Andy Reid has joined ClassicCars.com as East Coast Editor for the blog.

Reid was only 15 years old when he bought his first car, a 1968 Fiat 124, and it wasn’t long before he squandered his college fund on a 1966 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2. Since then, he has owned more than 150 cars, “none of them normal or reasonable,” is how he puts it. Oh, and that 150 total doesn’t include the classic motorcycles or scooters he’s owned.

Although he liked the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona enough to own it twice, his dream machine is a Ferrari 365 California Spider, but not just any of them — he wants the one bearing serial number 9889, which is the only one in azzurro metallizzato and still wears that original paint. He first saw this car in the early 1980s in the Illustrated Ferrari Buyers Guide and decided then and there that it was the car he wanted. The car photographed in the book was 9889. He had the opportunity to drive the car a few years ago when it was on sale at the Christies’ Pebble Beach auction. The car exceeded his expectations and caused him to want it even more.

In the meantime, he recently bought a 1996 BMW Z3 007 Goldeneye limited edition, “the only limited edition Bond car offered to the public.” He looked for a perfect example of the Bond Z3 for four years before finding the perfect car. Being a huge Bond fan, this car is likely to stay in his collection for many years, especially as it is likely the best example in the world.

After working in film, television and advertising, Reid helped launch several Internet-based companies. He was a columnist for Classic Motorsports magazine for 12 years and has written for several other publications.
