The fifth Rennsport Reunion, the huge gathering of Porsche race cars and drivers held once every three years, will return to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca next fall. The dates are October 9-15, 2015.
Rennsport Reunion IV also was held at the historic track on California’s Monterey Peninsula.
“While the Rennsport name from the beginning has become a staple fixture for international collectors and racers, choosing the Monterey Peninsula opened up this one-of-a-kind gathering to the many Porsche fans in California and beyond who were previously unable to attend,” Detlev von Platen, president and chief executive Porsche Cars North America, said in a news release. “Approximately 40,000 spectators for the weekend, and a record number of race cars and participants, proved that our decision to come here was correct.
“After that truly rare gathering of significant Porsche race cars on the West Coast in 2011, we can expect an even larger number of fans of the Stuttgart sports car icon to attend next year,” added Gill Campbell, chief executive and general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
“We are proud that Porsche will come back to our track where it has a long racing tradition, and my team and I look forward to help making this the best Rennsport Reunion ever.”
Hosted by Porsche Cars North America, the Rennsport Reunion features Porsche racers on the track as well as a concours d’elegance and other activities celebrating each of the six decades of Porsche racing.
In addition to the historic racing cars taking part in the on-track action, some 1,300 Porsche Club of America members and their cars are anticipated to attend and to fill out the various show fields and parking lots at the track.
The first three Rennsport Reunions were held in the eastern part of the U.S., with the inaugural event in 2001 at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut.
