They won’t be in concert, but Nick Mason of Pink Floyd and Neal Schon, guitarist, songwriter and vocalist, co-founder of Journey and guitarist with Santana, will discuss the connection between music and cars during a Rock n’ Roll themed conversation during The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on Friday, August 15 on the Monterey Peninsula.

Another featured speaker at the event will be Jackie Stewart, who will talk about his racing career in a Fireside Chat. Stewart was a three-time World Driving Champion who won 27 Formula 1 races in only 99 starts. He held the record for most victories by a driver for 14 years.

Other features of the 12th annual gathering in the Carmel Valley will include the 100th anniversary of Maserati, racing Mustangs and a Tribute to India. They will join such traditional classes as pre-war sports and racing cars, post-war sports cars, post-war racing cars, super cars, “The Great Ferraris,” and sports and racing motorcycles.

Highlighting the pre-war sports car grouping will be a 1938 Talbot-Lago 150C SS while a 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Series 1 will be part of the array of The Great Ferraris.

Some 200 vehicles will be on the show field.

Also on the schedule is the Bonhams Quail Lodge auction that will feature a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, one of only 39 built. The car is being offered at no reserve and figures to set records for the most expensive bids ever offered at a Monterey collector car auction.

Of those 39 GTOs, one is owned by Nick Mason, whose car collection includes more than three dozen classic racing and sports cars. Schon’s collection tends more toward super cars and motorcycles.
