Contemporary collectibles dominate Mecum’s Houston auction

-

Mecum Auctions’ recent sale in Houston posted $21.4 million in sales, with a 70-percents sell-through as 621 vehicles went to new owners.

The sale was the third in a row for Mecum at Houston with sales of $20 million or more.

1971 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T was top-seller among ‘vintage’ vehicles

Topping the recent auction was a 2006 Ford GT driven only 138 miles. The car sold for $368,500 (prices include buyer’s fees).

As has become the trend of collector car sales, the top three sales and seven of the top 10 were cars produced this century. They include a 2015 Rolls-Royce Ghost ($198,000), 2001 BMW Z8 ($192,500), 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG ($170,500), 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon ($170,500), 2012 Bentley Mulsanne ($154,000), and another ’18 Demon ($143,000).

Detroit muscle cars — early ‘70s Dodge Hemi Challenger and Plymouth Superbird, and 1967 Shelby GT500 — rounded out the top 10 listings.
